HCC Announces Details for November Fundraiser in Atlanta

Atlanta Sweetwater Brewery Fundraiser

Summer at HCC was a season of growth, curiosity, and connection, thanks in large part to a special guest who brought fresh perspectives and encouragement to our community. We were thrilled to welcome Sonya, a volunteer from the USA, who led a series of engaging personal development sessions that left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Held every Monday and Thursday throughout the month of July, these sessions focused on themes such as self-awareness, cultural diversity, emotional resilience, and stepping outside of one’s comfort zone. With her warm, approachable style, Sonya created a space where students felt safe to explore complex topics and reflect deeply on their own values and goals.

From discussing the challenges of comparison to others to finding strength in empathy and discipline, her classes were not only informative but deeply inspiring. Many students shared how the sessions helped them feel more confident, self-assured, and open-minded, both about themselves and the world around them.

I learned how to feel comfortable with myself and not compare my journey to others,” one student shared. “Sonya helped us understand American culture better while also encouraging us to look at life from a broader perspective.

Sonya’s sessions also gave students a chance to explore what cultural exchange truly means. Through honest conversations, shared experiences, and thoughtful questions, participants gained a deeper understanding of global perspectives and saw how understanding different cultures can deepen empathy and connection.

One of the best parts of the month was learning how to relate to new ideas from around the world and connect them to our lives here,” reflected another participant.

Beyond the sessions themselves, Sonya made time to engage with students through team-building exercises and informal conversations, creating a real sense of community.

Because of supporters like you, HCC can keep offering spaces where students grow, learn, and thrive.
